How 250 Electric Candles Helped Transform a French Castle’s Bridal Suite

There are some projects that feel special from the very beginning.

When Electric Candle Company had the opportunity to help Daphne and Ian Fig transform part of their historic French château, we knew this would be one of them. But even we could not have predicted just how extraordinary the finished room would become—or that we would eventually watch the entire transformation unfold on television.

Daphne and Ian are the couple behind HGTV’s Castle Impossible, a renovation series following their ambitious effort to restore Château de Lésigny, a magnificent 500-year-old property outside Paris.

Restoring a castle of this size is far more than a decorating project. It is a continuing act of preservation. Every room comes with its own history, structural challenges, architectural surprises, and seemingly impossible decisions.

For one particularly romantic project, Daphne and Ian set their sights on the château’s historic Dove Tower. Their vision was to transform the unusual old structure into a luxurious bridal suite—a private, unforgettable retreat worthy of the weddings held on the property.

And to create the right atmosphere, they needed candlelight.

A tremendous amount of candlelight.

Daphne and Ian did not originally plan to become the caretakers of an enormous French château.

The high school sweethearts reconnected as adults and were preparing to build a simpler life together when Daphne inherited Château de Lésigny from her grandfather. Suddenly, the couple found themselves responsible for a vast historic estate with centuries of history—and an equally vast list of repairs.

The property includes the main château and numerous additional buildings and structures, including the Dove Tower. The château also operates as a wedding and event venue, giving Daphne and Ian an important way to generate income for the ongoing restoration.

Their renovation philosophy immediately resonated with us. They are not attempting to turn the château into a generic modern property. Instead, they work to protect its character, honor its history, and create spaces that feel magical without losing their connection to the past.

That balance is not easy to achieve.

A historic room should feel atmospheric and authentic, but it must also be comfortable, functional, and safe for modern guests. Electric candles are especially valuable in environments like this because they can provide the romance and visual warmth of traditional candles without introducing hundreds of open flames.

The Vision for the Dove Tower

The Dove Tower was originally designed for pigeons—not people.

Its unusual history and architecture gave the space incredible character, but converting it into a luxury suite required a tremendous amount of imagination and work. Daphne and Ian envisioned something romantic, intimate, and completely unlike an ordinary hotel room.

The finished suite needed to feel like a private world hidden within the château grounds.

Electric candles were going to play a central role in creating that feeling. Instead of using candlelight as a small decorative accent, the couple wanted it to become an immersive part of the room.

Imagine walking into a centuries-old stone tower and finding the walls glowing with hundreds of individual points of warm light. The architecture feels softer. Shadows move across the old surfaces. Every curve, niche, and irregular detail becomes part of the experience.

That was the magic Daphne and Ian wanted to create.

Preparing 250 Electric Candles for France

Supplying a few candles for a bedroom is one thing. Preparing 250 electric candles for a historic castle in France is something else entirely.

This was one of those orders that made everyone involved stop and imagine the finished result. As the candles were gathered and prepared, the scale of the installation began to sink in.

Two hundred and fifty candles would not simply decorate the room. Together, they would help define it.

Every candle had to contribute to a consistent visual effect. When a project uses this many individual lights, details matter. The proportions, color temperature, flame appearance, and candle sleeves all need to work together. Even small differences can become noticeable when repeated hundreds of times.

Candle sleeves were therefore an important part of the project. A well-designed sleeve helps an electric candle look finished and intentional, allowing the fixture to complement the surrounding architecture instead of appearing like an ordinary exposed lightbulb.

For the Dove Tower, the goal was not to make the room feel overly polished or newly constructed. It needed to retain the mystery and romance of an old French castle. The electric candles and sleeves had to look as if they belonged within that environment.

We carefully prepared the products for their journey and sent them across the Atlantic. Then came the difficult part: waiting to see what Daphne and Ian would create with them.

Why Electric Candles Were Perfect for the Suite

Nothing creates a romantic atmosphere quite like candlelight. But placing hundreds of traditional burning candles in a bedroom—particularly one inside a historic structure—would create obvious safety and maintenance concerns.

Electric candles offered Daphne and Ian a practical way to pursue their ambitious design without sacrificing the feeling they wanted.

They could create a room filled with candlelight while avoiding the smoke, melted wax, heat, and open flames associated with traditional candles. Guests could enjoy the experience without anyone needing to light and extinguish hundreds of wicks before and after every stay.

That is one reason we love seeing electric candles used creatively. They make it possible to design with light on a scale that would be difficult or impractical with traditional candles.

One electric candle can add a charming accent. Hundreds of electric candles can transform the architecture itself.

In the Dove Tower, the repetition of the lights created depth, texture, and a sense of wonder. The candles emphasized the height and shape of the tower while giving the suite an intimate warmth.

The result felt both theatrical and welcoming—exactly the combination a remarkable bridal suite needs.

Watching the Transformation Come Together

Until you see products installed in their final environment, there is always an element of mystery.

We knew what we had sent. We understood Daphne and Ian’s vision. But we had not yet experienced the room as a complete design.

When we finally saw the transformation, we were amazed.

The historic Dove Tower had become a glowing bridal retreat. Electric candles surrounded the room, creating a warm, layered atmosphere that beautifully complemented its old-world architecture. The finished installation reportedly grew to approximately 300 electric candles, making the effect even more dramatic.

The suite felt romantic without being predictable. It was luxurious without losing the raw character that made the tower special. Most importantly, it felt inseparable from its setting.

This was not a bedroom that could have been created in an ordinary house and transported to France. It belonged specifically to Château de Lésigny.

That is the mark of a truly successful design.

The candles did not compete with the architecture. They revealed it.

From a Product Shipment to a Television Moment

Seeing the completed room would have been exciting under any circumstances. Watching the project appear on Castle Impossible made the experience even more memorable.

There is something surreal about sending boxes of products from your business and later seeing those same products become part of a major television renovation. Items that had once been sitting in our workspace were suddenly glowing inside a French castle on HGTV.

Watching the episode allowed us to experience the transformation in a completely different way. We could see the physical challenges of working in the tower, the decisions that shaped the design, and the amount of effort required to turn an ambitious idea into a finished bridal suite.

It also gave viewers an opportunity to understand the scale of the installation. A photograph can show that a room is beautiful, but television captures the experience of moving through it. As the camera travels around the suite, the layers of candlelight become part of the story.

We were incredibly proud to see Electric Candle Company associated with such an imaginative project.

More Than Bedroom Lighting

This collaboration also demonstrated what is possible when electric candles are treated as a primary design element rather than a finishing accessory.

Most people understandably think of electric candles as replacements for traditional candles. They may picture a few lights in a window, on a chandelier, or arranged across a table.

The Dove Tower installation went much further.

Here, electric candles became an architectural feature. Their repetition established a visual rhythm around the room. They drew attention to the shape of the tower and reinforced the suite’s romantic identity.

The project is a wonderful source of inspiration for designers, wedding venues, hotels, restaurants, theaters, historic properties, and homeowners. You do not necessarily need 250 candles to apply the same idea. The lesson is to think about candlelight as part of the overall design—not simply something added at the end.

A thoughtful collection of electric candles can:

• Bring warmth to a large or visually cold room.

• Highlight arches, alcoves, stone walls, and architectural details.

• Add romance without the risks associated with open flames.

• Establish a memorable identity for a hospitality or event space.

The Dove Tower accomplishes both.

Its historic setting already provides an extraordinary backdrop. The candle installation intensifies that experience, enveloping guests in a soft glow and making the suite feel removed from the everyday world.

For couples celebrating at Château de Lésigny, staying in the tower is not simply a practical accommodation. It becomes part of the wedding story—an experience they are likely to remember for the rest of their lives.

That emotional response is what great lighting can achieve.

It does more than help people see a room. It helps determine how they feel inside it.

Celebrating Daphne and Ian’s Creativity

We are grateful to have played a part in this transformation, but the true vision belongs to Daphne and Ian.

Restoring a property like Château de Lésigny requires persistence, resourcefulness, and an unusual willingness to tackle projects that other people might consider impossible. The Dove Tower is just one part of their much larger mission to preserve the estate and build a sustainable future for it.

What impressed us most was their ability to see potential in a space that was never intended to be a bedroom. Where someone else might have seen an impractical old tower, they saw the possibility of creating one of the château’s most memorable rooms.

Their work is proof that historic preservation does not have to mean freezing a building in time. With care and creativity, old spaces can be given new purposes while retaining the qualities that make them irreplaceable.

We could not have imagined a more beautiful home for our electric candles.

An Unforgettable Experience for Electric Candle Company

From preparing 250 candles and coordinating the candle sleeves to watching the final room appear on television, this project has become one of our favorite Electric Candle Company stories.

It also reminded us that you never quite know where a product will end up—or what someone creative will do with it.

A candle that begins its journey in a shipping box might eventually illuminate a restaurant, a theater, a wedding venue, a family home, or even a 500-year-old French castle.

In this case, 250 electric candles traveled to France and helped turn a former Dove Tower into a glowing bridal suite seen by television audiences around the world.

That is an experience we will never forget.
